Workers at Trinity Towers vote for IBEW representation

Newton Independent

Workers at Trinity Towers in Newton on Friday voted for union representation by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Workers at the Newton wind tower plant located in a portion of the former Maytag Plant 2 building voted 69 to 62 in favor of the collective bargaining representation, union officials said.

The IBEW Local 347 in Des Moines represents approximately 1,200 workers throughout central Iowa.

Congratulations to the newest members of IBEW 347! An extra special thanks to Local Union 347 members Dave Lester, Brian Schmidt, and Jay Grimes as well as International Representatives Jeff Rose, Brien Heins, and Tad Gusta for all their efforts in Newton!

TRAVELING RESIGN INFORMATION
All resigns for IBEW Local #481 (Indianapolis) and Local #725 (Terre Haute) must be sent from the hall on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

PARADES & LOCAL #347
IBEW Local Union #347 will be walking in the Labor Day parades along side Governor Chet Culver and other Building Trades members.  If you are interested in being part of the group, contact the hall with names and t-shirt sizes for all individuals that will be walking.  Families welcome!  Please call the hall at 515-243-1924 OR email jekurimski@ibewlu347.org with the information!  Those wanting to participate will be contacted with details prior to the day of the parade.

STATE LICENSE INFORMATION
All training rosters are submitted to the State within 48 hours of comletion of class.Check website at: http://www.dps.state.ia.us/fm/electrician/continuing_ed/pdfs/entered_master.pdf
to check the number of continued education credits you have.  Click on Continued Education Credits Earned.  Website is updated on a monthly basis.  If you do not see the correct amount of continued education credits recorded, fax your certificate to 515-725-6151.  You then should call 515-725-6147 or 1-866-923-1082 or you may email to elecinfo@dps.state.ia.us to confirm receipt and credit.
 
For your information, there will be no grace period for renewals.  Should the journeyman not have all the 18 hours of credit prior to December 31, 2010, there will be no grace period.  The individual will have to retake the Prometric examination and reapply for their State license.

At the October meeting of the Electrical Examining Board, Barb Mentzer was elected Chair with Chad Layland being voted in as Vice-Chair.  Barb is on the board as the inspector member, while Chad is filling the engineer position.  Chad currenly works for Baker Electric and Barb works for the city of Altoona.  You may contact Barb with any questions or concerns at bmentzer@altoona-iowa.com or 515-971-9775.
