If You Were an Elected School Board Official Could You Live
With Yourself If . . .
· School children were hurt as a result of an electrical bid you accepted based on price alone? One that never considered how QUALIFIED the electrician was?

School Board Officials Can Play It Safe By Contracting With Local 347 Contractors Because:
EVERY JOURNEYMAN ON THE SCHOOL JOB SITE HAS A MINIMUM OF 10000 HOURS OF ON THE JOB & CLASSROOM TRAINING.
Non-Union Contractors are only required to attain a FRACTION OF THIS TRAINING.

Your Quick Email Reemphasizes SAFETY For Thousands
of School Children
Email School Board President Ginny Strong at ginnyforschools@yahoo.com and tell her to consider both price and qualifications when it comes to evaluating bids on electrical projects.

STATE LICENSE INFORMATION

All training rosters are submitted to the State within 48 hours of completion of class.

Check web site at: www.dps.state.ia.us/fm/electrician/index.shtml to check the number of continued education credits you have.  Click on Continued Education Credits Earned. Website is updated on a monthly basis.  If you do not see the correct amount of continued education credits recorded, fax your certificate to 515-725-6151.  You then should call 515-725-6147 or 1-866-923-1082 or you may email to elecinfo@dps.state.ia.us to confirm receipt and credit.

For your information, there will be no grace period for renewals.  Should the journeyman not have all the 18 hours of credit prior to December 31, 2010, there will be no grace period.  The individual will have to retake the Prometric examination and reapply for their State license.

DEPENDENT ELIGIBILITY AUDIT OF HEALTH PLANS
As part of our commitment to control healthcare costs, we are participating in an audit of enrolled dependents to ensure that only eligible dependents are covered under our health plan(s).  Principal Financial Group is conducting the audit beginning February 1, 2010.

You will receive a letter from Principal Financial Group requiring you to certify your eligible dependents.  A response is required by April 30, 2010.  All health plan participants with dependent coverage must take action during this audit to keep their eligible dependents covered by Electrical Workers Health & Welfare Funds health plan.  In addition, you will be required to provide verification that your dependents are eligible (e.g. birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc).

Please regard this letter from Principal Financial Group as important and provide a timely response.

Again, you can visit www.cdc.gov/nchs/w2s.htm for information on how to obtain these documents.

WEBSITE ADDITIONS!
Out of work members are now able to look at Book I and Book II and determine where they are on the list based on their registration number that is assigned to them when they sign the books.  If you want to know your registration number please call the hall and we will be happy to give it to you!  You can also check back the day after a job call has been posted to see what position # on the books got the call.  You are also able to resign and get a confirmation immediately from our website!  We're trying to make this a more user friendly site for all out of work members/travelers.  Thank you!

Please check out our new tab Journeyman Classes for the latest Journeyman upgrade classes available!

Now that we have statewide licensing, it is imperative that you get your 18 hours of continuing education as soon as possible, which must have 6 hours of code update. The remainder is electrical industry related (first aid, CPR, OSHA, etc. does not count). There will be a cutoff date sometime towards the end of the licensing period, so we strongly urge you to take classes now because after the cutoff date you will be on your own. There will be no last minute classes put on as in the past.
